| Peninsula Primary Care
- About Us |
| |
|
|
| The Peninsula Primary Care Psychology
& Counselling Service has evolved from the successful Hamilton
Associates Primary Care Ltd which started business in 1998 under
the guidance of Dr Chris Hamilton, Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
The new Peninsula Primary Care service now provides expert psychological
assessment for the NHS, the Independent Sector and for the judiciary
via expert psychological assessment and legal reports. A full
range of psychological assessments is available ranging from
assessments for depression and/or anxiety to memory problems,
post-traumatic stress and IQ assessment. A full list of assessments
is outlined further in the clinical and legal sections of the
site. |

| Core Areas of Expertise |
| |
|
|
| Since 1998 there has been a steady
growth year upon year in all of the company's three core areas.
The success has largely been built on a solid empirical foundation
of continued clinical evaluation and the skill and commitment
shown by the clinical staff over the years. This has allowed
the company to develop itself in line with the National Service
Framework for Mental Health that has helped to shape the clinical
future of the company. This success was reflected in a recent
independent NHS review of primary care mental health services
where the company was the only provider to get close to the
cost per case in all practices envisaged by the new GP contract
for enhanced services for depression. The report (summary available)
revealed that the company was able to see more patients and
at a lower unit cost when compared to other independent and
NHS providers. |

|
| Achievement & Professional
Development |
| |
|
|
| Peninsula Primary Care maintain
that this is achieved by having a quality service from top to
bottom with clinicians both trained and supervised within an
empirical framework. These outcomes are achievable by keeping
bureaucracy to an absolute minimum and by providing clinical
staff with on-going training, support and supervision relevant
to their roles within the company. Indeed, the report revealed
that Peninsula Primary Care are the only organisation that explicitly
states that all staff have a training programme as part of their
Continuing Professional Development. They have also clearly
assessed the training requirements of their staff group as a
whole (in terms of the requirements of the job) and commissioned
training as appropriate. |

| Our Approach |
| |
|
|
|
We at Peninsula Primary Care adopt what we
believe is a caring, pragmatic and common sense approach to
working with psychological problems. This ethic is applied
throughout the company in all its core areas of business and
over the past 10 years we have built up a warm, supportive
and friendly group of clinicians from diverse backgrounds
and this, in turn, helps provide a rich source of knowledge
for the team in general.
The service is scientist-practitioner in
orientation and therapeutic interventions involve cognitive,
behavioural and dynamic approaches that may be directive or
non-directive depending on the presenting problem, all approaches
however remain evidence based. The service design and outcomes
have been published in the "NHS Doctor and Commissioning GP"
Journal following an evaluation of 573 primary care referrals.
The publication focused on the setting up of a service that
was responsive to the relevant psychological problems that
frequently present in primary care. The publication illustrated
how the overall service aims and outcomes were achieved by
utilizing the most appropriate assessment, treatment and audit
protocols (copies available on request). Peninsula Primary
Care remain committed to "The National Service Framework Standards
for Mental Health". This means that all our patients have
access to a highly professional primary care service, ensuring
that their needs are appropriately assessed and an effective
treatment plan put in place.
